Like most quilters, we learned to piece quilts before we learned to appliqué. We have never lost our love of pieced quilts. We treasure the skills that we learned early on.
We wrote this book with the hope that it becomes a much used resource book — for beginners as well as for quilters of all skill levels. We have done our best to share with you classic, fundamental quilting skills. Once mastered, these are the skills that you can use in every quilt you make.
If you are a beginner, never fear. We begin with very basic information about color, fabric, and tools. The sewing begins with simple (but pretty!) quilts made from strips. The skills presented are built upon each other, chapter by chapter.
There are 15 skill-building projects — and 27 individual quilts inside.
Many of the quilts are made up in 2 or 3 different colorways to give you more ideas!

This quilt (in different colors) is featured in the June 2008 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting. We made fabric kits in three different colorways! To see all three quilts and kits, click here.
Please Note—The Chinese Coins pattern is not included in the kit. The pattern is in the magazine and in Piecing the Piece O' Cake Way that you can order above.
