We really love these little pins. Use them to pin your applique pieces to your block. Because they are short your thread doesn't hang up on them so much. Their shorter length allows you to get in more pins which holds your applique in place better.
If you aren't used to them, here are some tips:
Always pin with the background flat against your sandboard.
If you are right handed, push down on the fabric (against the sandboard) with your left index finger just in front of the point of the pin. It helps you create a "hill" and makes it easier to get the pin through.
