Linda found this antique quilt at the Tulsa Flea Market many years ago. It is a lovely example of simple red and green applique. We are happy to offer the pattern to you free with any purchase from our website.
We have prepared two different versions of the block pattern for you. One is a bit quirky - with subtle variations in each flower and leaf. The other version is more precisely drawn. You get to choose the pattern that suits you best!
You also get to choose your block size - 18 x 18 or 15 x 15.
We used 18 x 18 larger block in a 12-block quilt to match the original, antique quilt. This quilt has a finished size of 71 x 89 1/2.
We set the 15 x 15 block into a 4-block wall quilt. It has a finished size 44 1/2 x 44 1/2.
This ePattern includes the two versions of the block. You will need to enlarge the block to the size the fits your project. Also included are the cutting and setting instructions for both the large and small quilts, as well as basic applique instructions.
For detailed applique instructions, refer to our book The New Applique Sampler and/or our DVD - Learn to Applique the Piece O' Cake Way.

Please read these instructions for downloading PDF ePatterns. This pattern is FREE with any purchase but you MUST click the button to add it to your order.

One of the most interesting features of the antique top is the machine applique accompanied by hand stitching. Those aren't quilting stitches because this quilt hasn't been quilted yet.

The maker turned the edges of the applique under and stitched each piece in place with her sewing machine. Then she added a running stitch by hand in heavier off-white thread.
