Practical Color — No-Sew Color Class

You love color, but have trouble deciding which colors to use in your quilt. If that sounds familiar, then this is the class for you. 

This is a fun, no-sew day filled with surprises and lots of discussion. You will play with color and value as you glue fabric to paper to make pieced blocks. Everyone puts their blocks together and we all get to see what works, what doesn't, and mostly importantly, how to make color work for you. 

All skill levels welcome.

Bullseye — Foundation Paper-Piecing Class

This eye-catching block is easier to make than it looks. Come to class and learn the techniques that make foundation paper-piecing fun!

You will work on one 20" x 20" block in class. Choose fabrics and colors for your own block to set the mood you want, either vintage or modern. You can repeat blocks to make a bigger quilt or you can use this block alone or as a center medallion. A $5 kit with instructions to make this block and printed vellum pages for 1 block and 1 sheet of self-adhesive laminate) is required.

Test Pattern — English Paper Piecing Class

English paper piecing (EPP for short) is relaxing hand sewing sewing at its best. The papers fit together perfectly, the stitching is fast, and you get to have fun with fabric!  All skill levels welcome.

The 8" x 8" block pattern (from the block of the month, The Hand Sewing Adventure) is provided in class.  The block looks great on its own or when repeated in a larger quilt.

Thistle Baskets — Hand Applique Class

Thistle Baskets can be used as a center medallion or repeat it to make a multi-block quilt. The block is 16" x 16" and the 6-hour needleturn hand applique class focuses on invisible hand applique techniques.

Tile Tango — Hand Applique Class

This needleturn hand applique class focuses on invisible applique techniques. All skill levels welcome.

Each flowers rests on an 8" x 8" block. Four 8" blocks are sewn together make the larger 16" block. You will work on one 8” block in class. The block pattern (from the book, The Quilter's Practical Guide To Color) is provided in class.

Available as a 3 or 6-hour class. The 3-hour class focuses on outer points.

Backyard Birds — Hand Applique Class

Who can resist a perky bird! This needleturn hand applique class focuses on the invisible applique stitch, outer points, inner and outer curves, small shapes and off-the-block stitching. All skill levels welcome.

The 12" x 12" block pattern (from Backyard Bird) is provided in class.

Texas Tulips — Hand Applique Class

Learn the basics of needleturn hand applique in a class especially designed to teach the most common hand applique techniques. All skill levels are welcome.

The 6-hour class focuses on the invisible stitch, outer and inner points, and curves.

The speedy 3-hour class focuses on the invisible stitch and outer points.

Perfectly Pretty Hexie Garden — Hand Applique Class

This block is made of 6 triangular wedges that are sewn together to make the larger hexagon. You will work on one flower in class. This unique block has a finished size of 16 1/2" x 19 1/4".

You will learn needleturn hand applique techniques focusing on narrow stems, circles, and outer points.

All skill levels welcome.

Hand Quilting Basics

Hand quilting adds beautiful texture and softness to your quilts. You will love the relaxed rhythm of hand quilting and experience real joy as you watch your stitches enhance your quilt. And just so you know, it is perfectly OK to mix hand and machine quilting!

You will learn how to baste the layers, prepare the edges of the quilt so they stay tidy as you quilt. Most importantly, you will learn the classic hand quilting, rocking stitch. You will have the choice of making small, traditional stitches or showy, fast, big stitches.

It is a very good idea to learn hand quilting on a small project before launching into a big quilt! You will quilt an 18” x 18” square in class that can be finished and used as a pillow or small table topper.

Jamestown House — WOOL Applique Class

If you've been wanting to learn how to applique felted wool, this is the class for you! You will learn the basic wool applique techniques as you work on this cozy 8" x 10" block. Your block can be used as a pillow or small wall quilt, or sewn to a large Yazzii bag as decoration.

Pick-Up Sticks — Machine Piecing Class

PICK-UP STICKS is a lovely, modern quilt that is fast and fun to make! This class combines improvisational cutting with speedy piecing techniques. All sewing is done on the machine.

The blocks don't go together the way they look like they do. But once you know how to make them it opens up a world of possibilities!

Improvisational Piecing — Machine Piecing Class

Learn how to make decisions and embrace the unexpected as you work on your very own quilt that will be like no one else's.

This class focuses on square-in-a-square and half-square triangle blocks, color, and design. You can cut with or without a ruler. All sewing is done on the machine.

Use my quilt as inspiration or come with an idea of your own. In either case, you will find that your quilt will take shape as you cut and sew.

Button Box — Curved Piecing Class

Don't be afraid! Curved seams and set-in circles are truly simple — and fun — to sew.

The quilt is made up of 6" x 6" Drunkard's Path and small circle blocks. The finished quilt is 52" x 58", perfect for a wall quilt or throw.

Join the fun and become a master of curved seams.
