Linda & Becky

Piece O' Cake Designs is a company specializing in quilt books and patterns. We are especially known for our applique designs.

We, Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkins, own and operate Piece O' Cake Designs, Inc.

Our books and patterns can be found in a variety of places: at your local quilt shop, on many quilting websites, from our publisher C&T, at many book stores, and right here on our website!

Have you been reading the Piece O' Cake blog?

I talk about color, design, quilting, and what's going on in my life. Every now and then Linda chimes in, which is nice!

There is a link in the menu bar on each page of our site (including this page) to the blog.

Don't miss Show & Tell!

Where we show your quilts!

This is Debbie's version of Aunt Millie's Garden.

A note about secure shopping:

Ours is a secure site using Yahoo's shopping cart technology. When you begin the check out process look at the page address at the top of the page. It should begin "https://... That "s" indicates a secure page. You may also have a "locked" lock icon on the bottom of that page.

Excerpted from a recent email:

I want you two to know how much fun I am having making your appliqué sampler quilt. I saw both of you on Simply Quilts and was fascinated with your method, although it has taken me a while to get started. It is amazing how easy it is, I love hand sewing and have sewn all my life. Of course there is work to do on getting my stitching even but the toothpick method of turning a corner is awesome. My next project will be the Aunt Millie quilt.

NEW! Frosted Vinyl for Placement Overlays

This 50"-wide frosted vinyl is transparent when placed on top of the fabric. It is the perfect vinyl for making placement overlays for your applique. Click here to see how to make and use an overlay.

For years we used a clear vinyl that came with tissue paper. When the vinyl was folded or rolled, the tissue paper kept the plastic from sticking together and it kept the drawn lines from transferring from one part of the vinyl to another. The frosted vinyl does not require the tissue paper. (Many thanks to Cindy in Lafayette for showing this vinyl to me and for the lovely bag)!

I have been using the frosted vinyl for months and I think you'll love it as much as I do. It is non-stretchy, flexible, and thin enough to be able to pin through it easily. Perfect! Click here to order it from the Notions page.

Fat Quarter SALE!

All of the fat quarter bundles are 25% off. Find links to all the fabric pages in the menu bar above and/or click here and here. Quantities are very limited so don't wait to order.

Butterfly Garden ePattern

If your Christmas stitching is complete this might be the perfect time to start a quilt for spring! Butterfly Garden was in our 2004 book, Applique Delights, which is currently out of print. It has been featured in a variety of ways by American Patchwork & Quilting. Click here for more details.

I Want To Go Home ePattern

I made this quilt especially for the 2011 Stanley Cup Quilt-Off to benefit the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative. Now you can make one too! The blocks in this ePattern are 8" square, rather than the teeny 4" squares that I made. The Downloadable ePattern is $10. Click here for more info.

New lessons...

One of the things I've worked on lately are videos showing the Applique With Attitude stitches. I think the new videos are clearer and I know my nails look better. Click here to go to that page.

I've also changed the other Lesson pages... click here and here. I'm not sure that the videos are different, but the pages are different. I added a downloadable PDF on making sleeves that you might be interested in.

I've also re-written my class page. If I'm coming to a guild or shop near you (click here for my calendar) you might want to check out the new class page.

What is it?

FYI - the quilt shown in the banner on this page is Circular Momentum from our book, Quilt A New Christmas. Click here for more info.

Perle Cotton News

The perle cotton thread packs are now available in both the size 12 and 16 weights. Size 16 is finer and glides more easily through the fabric. Size 12 is a bit thicker and therefore it is a bit more showy. The thicker thread requires a bit more finger strength but I use it often.

All thread packs are now available in both size 12 and 16 weights. Click here to see them all. And if you look closely, you'll see 3 new colors!
